Heyrovský born 1890 Prague to law professor father. Studied chemistry physics math at Charles University then UCL under Ramsay Donnan. Earned BSc 1913 PhD 1918 DSc 1921. Worked hospital WWI as chemist radiologist. Invented polarography 1922 developed electrochemistry branch. Became first physical chemistry professor Prague 1926. Founded Czech polarography school led research. Directed Polarographic Institute 1950 incorporated Academy Sciences 1952. Married 1926 had daughter Jitka son Michael. Died 1967 aged 76 buried Prague. Won State Prize 1951 Order Republic 1955. Elected Foreign Member Royal Society 1965. Received honorary doctorates multiple universities. Honorary member numerous academies societies worldwide. Lectured polarography USA USSR England Sweden China Egypt. Moon crater named Heyrovský.
