Pintupi are Western Desert Australian Aboriginals west of Lake Macdonald and Mackay. Pintupi abandoned traditional lifestyle last among Aboriginals in 1984. Government relocated Pintupi in 1960s due to Blue Streak missile tests landing in their desert. Pintupi moved to settlements like Papunya and Haasts Bluff for re-education before white assimilation. Policy suppressed Pintupi language art and culture. Involved forced removal of Pintupi children in Stolen Generation. Pintupi have complex kinship with eight groups and male Tj female N skin name prefixes. Pintupi lands cover 8000 square miles including Lake Mackay and Kintore ranges. Some Pintupi returned to traditional country in outstation movement forming Kintore Kiwirrkura and Jupiter Well. Pintupi populations and language speakers recently increased. Menzies government forced Pintupi east toward Alice Springs in 1960s. Pintupi among last Aboriginals contacted due to remote location. Pintupi now live in communities like Papunya Kintore Kiwirrkura Warburton and Balgo.
