The author of the book "Blueprint: How DNA Makes Us Who We Are," says: Parents are important, but they are not influential. Studies show that hereditary differences in DNA account for about half of the differences in all psychological traits - including personality. Correlations between parenting and children's development mostly reflect genetic influence. Parents who impose their dreams on their children are unlikely to succeed unless they go with the "genetic flow."
