Lithium fluoride crystals "see" heavy ions at high energies
Go to the source page
Lithium fluoride crystals have recently been used to record traces of nuclear particles. Physicists at the Institute of Nuclear Physics of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Krakow have just shown that these crystals are also excellent for detecting the passage of high-energy ions of elements even as heavy as iron.
