If we put a two-meter long strand of DNA in a tiny cell nucleus, will there still be room for free diffusion of molecules? Yes. Research by scientists at the Institute of Physical Chemistry of the Polish Academy of Sciences reveals that the nucleus contains a network of channels that allow molecules as small as about 150 nm in diameter to move freely.
