Annihilation (destruction of matter and antimatter) has long served humans in PET scanners. Now an interdisciplinary team from Poland has developed a lightweight and inexpensive next-generation CT scanner, J-PET, that measures the rate of this annihilation in various tissues. With this new biomarker, they have shown how to make brain maps with entirely new information, such as glioma.
