Energy Policy and CO2: The discussion of changes in the energy mix, including windmills, is forced by climate policy and the hypothesis that man-made carbon dioxide is harmful , . The impact of human-generated CO2 emissions on climate change is moderate or insignificant at best . Poland is a marginal, unmeasurable emitter of CO2 (at most 0.5% of global emissions), and global emissions are increasing as countries like China and India build hundreds of new coal-fired power plants . The entire RES discussion would lose its basis if Poland withdrew from saving the planet, something no one outside the European Union is interested in . Costs and Instability of RES: Introducing unstable renewable energy sources (RES), such as windmills and photovoltaic panels, into the electricity system makes the system more expensive, more complicated and more difficult to maintain , . Crops of investment are needed just to make the RES work, while at the same time coal- or gas-fired power plants have to be kept on standby, which drives up prices . The main disadvantage of windmills and panels is that they do not operate according to the iron rule of the energy system, that is, they do not provide energy on demand, but when they want . This leads to oversizing of the system, overproduction of energy, destabilization, large fluctuations and risk of blackout (as in Spain) ,. For this reason, energy from windmills cannot be cheap by definition . Location and Physics of Windmills : The principle of distance 10H (10 times the height) or 10D (10 times the diameter) is due to the engineering approach to airflow disturbance . This disturbance persists for a distance of about 10D/10H behind the windmill, affecting the local microclimate (e.g., higher soil temperature and humidity) , . Setting one windmill behind another results in the rear windmill not working due to the large flow disturbance . Settings should be correlated with the size of the windmill (e.g. 7D, 5D), . PAN studies, although cited, claim that infrasound noise and electromagnetic interactions are comparable to natural noise or everyday objects and there is no evidence of harm, but this is a different issue than airflow disturbance , . Energy Storage: Unstable energy sources must be supported by energy storage, mainly pumped storage, because battery storage is still a myth . Poland has already reached a level of production from RES that is more or less in line with the possibilities of building pumped storage based on geography . Instead of adding new unstable sources, pumped storage should be built so that the existing unstable mix can work sensibly . Role of Coal and Modernization : Poland should bet on energy independence and cheap energy . Maintaining and modernizing coal-fired power plants is key . The goal should be to retain at least 50% of coal-based energy ultimately . Energy from coal is the cheapest and the technology is modern; professional coal-fired power plants have nothing to do with smog and comply with emission standards (except CO2) , . Coal is advantageous because of its ease of storage (in heaps), which provides energy security for the winter . ETS (European Trading System): The ETS is a tax designed to kill one energy industry (coal) and push another (RES) . Eliminating the ETS would make wind power completely unprofitable . It is recommended to abandon the ETS, which is considered a corrupt system . Nuclear Energy (Atom): It is worth having an atom because it shows the economic and technological maturity of the country, but it should not be overly glorified as the solution to all problems . In the near term, Poland is not able to build a nuclear-based system; the planned first nuclear power plant (above 3 GW) will be comparable in power to Belchatow . Despite the entry into nuclear technology, the coal sector must be maintained and taken care of in the transition perspective . There have previously been administrative problems and delays associated with the reactivation of the Maria research nuclear reactor (used to produce radioactive medical isotopes) ,.
