An obvious way to test whether immigration is generally harmful or beneficial is to see whether locals are flocking to or away from immigrants. Revealed preferences indicate that Westerners dislike existing immigration so much that they are willing to take significant pay cuts to avoid it. In countries with high immigration, people are moving away from economic opportunity! This damages the national economy, distorts the immigration debate and effectively destroys one of the greatest avenues of social advancement in the past two centuries. Internal migration from productive areas should be a clear warning signal to policymakers that the time has come for immigration restrictions.
