Discovery of Homo naledi in Rising Star cave in South Africa

The remains of at least 15 individuals, announced as a new species of Homo naledi, have been discovered at Rising Star in South Africa. Dated to about 236-335,000 years ago, it is not a direct ancestor of modern humans. The discoveries represent the largest concentration of hominid remains in Africa.
