The discovery of hominid remains from about 700,000 years ago on the island of Flores in Indonesia is reigniting the scientific debate over the evolutionary roots and identity of Homo floresiensis, known as hobbits. The findings suggest that hominids from Mata Menge may have been the ancestors of hobbits, indicating evolution from Homo erectus.
