Following an attack by gangsters with ties to the Venezuelan criminal organization Train to Aragua (Tren de Aragua) on police officers in Times Square, New York City Mayor Eric Adams has again criticized supporters of dismantling the police gang database. Adams argued that it was this dataset that helped identify the perpetrators of the attack. Supporters of the project - including, among others, New York City Public Defender Jumaane Williams - argue that the database is "discriminatory" against minorities and leads to their "excessive surveillance."
