The Ontario Human Rights Tribunal has ordered the Emo government to pay damages to a group of LGBTQ activists for refusing to recognize ''Pride Month'' in 2020. The tribunal ruled that the city must pay $10,000 and Mayor Harold McQuaker $5,000. In addition, the mayor and administrative director were ordered to complete a human rights course. The decision is meant to send a message to communities in rural areas that refusing to celebrate Pride Month can have consequences.
